How tin can I tell when my photographic camera was made / manufactured?

I take an opportunity to pick up a used D200, the seller has the receipt, the camera was purchased in 2007, my current D200 was purchased in early 2006 more than a year earlier his. However when comparing serial numbers, mine starts off with a 30634xx , his starts off with a 20556xx

And then what gives? I would expect his SN# to be college than mine not lower, is there any fashion to verify the manufactured appointment?

I believe the first digit indicates the state information technology was manufactured for export to. I think a SN beginning with the digit 3 was for consign to the USA. I don't know about a SN showtime with the digit two.

Nikon State Codes

Hullo VRII

The folllowing country codes might help:

Serial numbers outset with:
two - Nippon
3 - U.s.
iv - Europe (excluding Uk)
five - Canada
half dozen - Commonwealth of australia / New Zealand(?)
vii - Asia (excluding Japan)
8 - UK

Because of shortages and back orders, I have read that the United states also purchased cameras from other countries and Nikon has lists of these so they can seperate from gray imports.

My camera was 8 and purchased in the britain though I believe they are now using 4 for most of Europe including UK sometimes.

Re: Nikon Country Codes

It looks like the number is the full for that state market, then if the country is pocket-sized like the Britain or Japan then the numbers will be smaller than the USA for a afterwards model.

I think mine is quite a late model only four,500 actuations and the series number is
8017XXX ie 17,000 sold in U.k..

Re: Nikon State Codes

Thank yous all so very much for your replies! That makes a lot of sense, also the transmission of the SN#ii version is printed on recycled paper, my older SN#3 model was printed in the standard, kind of glossy paper, so I recollect former in '07 Nikon made the switch to recycled newspaper.

Re: Nikon Land Codes

Be enlightened that if the recently purchased i ever needs repair, yous could be out of luck. Nikon volition not repair a grey market camera in the states even if you lot are willing to pay for the repair. So if you live in usa and the camera was not intended to be sold in united states of america, no repair ever from nikon.

Re: Nikon Country Codes

I don't have a D200, on my D70 and D300s it says very conspicuously on the nameplate Made in Thailand. My D300s serial number begins with 8 and my D70 SN begins with 6

Nikon D800 Nikon D850 Nikon AF-Due south Nikkor 24-120mm F4G ED VR Nikon 85mm F1.8G Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm F1.4G +7 more

What is your source for these numbers?

Both series numbers of my D50 and D300s begin with a half dozen.
I purchased them in Brussels, Belgium (Europe).

Re: Nikon Country Codes

Marco,

Effort a search in Nikonians.

I recollect information technology said the info came from Nikon

I was right in my case.

Just remember that different countries can exist sent unlike codes if there is overstocking.

Re: Nikon Country Codes

Ral,

I believe that Nikon volition repair any camera from whatsoever region if the repair is paid for as a pro company, journalists would not be able to function if they could non repair their equipment on overseas consignment.

And so gray import would only affect whatsoever remaining warranty.

Re: Nikon Country Codes

Thats the ane, I was in the same state of affairs equally the op and saved this merely could not call up where, I found it on a link through nikonian and I think it said that the info came from Nikon.

Only I take seen some other post somewhere that said that Nikon does not give out any information about its serial numbers, and so there is some confusion, although I tend to think this version is correct with variations for moveing unsold regional stock.

Many company'south do something similar, some whisky bottles have a number etched inside the drinking glass.

It as well tells the manufacture which companies are selling to other companies, country's or branches.

I remember information technology is a foreign coincidence that both series numbers of my Nikon cameras brainstorm with a 6, while this number points to Australia in the list you posted, just I bought both of them in Europe 4 years apart and in unlike shops!

Re: Nikon Country Codes

Hi

Bought a Nikon D7100 off Eastward Bay for £545.00 since found out it is a grayness import

the price should take been a give abroad since they retail at 750.00 at my local photographic camera shop

I rang nikon U.k. and asked if my camera was a authentic Nikon camera and gave them the serial number which starts with twenty

Nikon said the photographic camera was marketed for the USA but was a authentic Nikon Production but would not be covered for any warranty in U.k..

I fancy a NIkon 810 in the future in my local photographic camera shop £2..300.00 Eastward Bay same camera

£1600.00 think I volition go for another grayness import and save £700.00 pounds

Nikon U.k. said they would repair Greyness Imports at cost when you are saving £700.00 pounds you can afford your own repair in the unlikely effect of a repair.
